Dr. Sullivan cherishes the privilege of building trusting relationships with his patients to understand their unique stories and empower them to achieve health and well-being. He believes in learning about and supporting his patient’s physical, mental, and spiritual health. He gives his patients ‘homework assignments’ focused on optimizing sleep, nutrition, physical activity, and work-life balance. Moreover, he recognizes patient care is a team affair between the patient, physician, support staff, and consultants. Dr. Sullivan is a bilingual Spanish speaker.
Clinical Expertise:
Dr. Sullivan is an Internal Medicine physician interested in preventive medicine, comprehensive evaluation and care of acute and chronic illnesses, health education, and clinical ethics.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Pre-professional studies from the University of Notre Dame. He spent a semester in London and worked in the British Parliament. He also learned about healthcare systems in Latin America through work at the Pan American Health Organization in D.C. and Andean Health & Development in Ecuador.
He earned his medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry where he also completed pathway programs in clinical ethics and Latino health. He pursued his Internal Medicine residency at Stony Brook University Hospital where he served on the faculty and was involved in the education of residents and students. He has a Master of Arts degree in Medical Humanities, Compassionate Care, and Bioethics from Stony Brook University. He also has additional training and experience in cardiovascular medicine.
Before joining Northern Virginia Family Practice, Dr. Sullivan cared for patients at Mount Vernon Internal Medicine in Springfield, VA. Dr. Sullivan is fluent in Spanish and grew up in a bilingual household, and he enjoys caring for patients from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
When I’m Not Working:
Dr. Sullivan resides in Arlington with his wife and children. He values his time with family and enjoys trying new activities together. He also enjoys watching college sports (Go Irish!!!), attending concerts, coaching soccer, and reading about global affairs. He is learning to play flamenco guitar.
