NVFP Presents: Town Hall Videos

Acupuncture Essentials – A Practical Guide to Holistic Healing

Video Description:

Acupuncture has gained popularity worldwide and is practiced in many countries. Often used for pain management, including conditions such as back pain, arthritis, migraines, and menstrual cramps, it is believed to stimulate the release of endorphins, which are the body’s natural painkillers. As a holistic therapy, acupuncture addresses not only the symptoms but also the underlying imbalances contributing to a person’s health issues.

Join Dr. Cecily Havert and Dr. Haley Parker for an in-depth discussion about the foundations of acupuncture, how acupuncture works, acupuncture techniques, and much more.

Video Highlights:

  • 0:11 – 5:49 – Dr. Cecily Havert begins the first town hall event of 2024 by introducing her guest, Dr. Haley Parker. Dr. Parker is a board-licensed acupuncturist and herbalist at Virginia University of Integrative Medicine (VUIM), where she serves as Director of Clinical Operations. Dr. Havert then invites a shared patient of theirs to speak about the wonders acupuncture has done for his knee.
  • 5:50 – 15:45 – Dr. Parker begins her presentation by stating – “We talk about alternative care, but really it’s complimentary care because what Dr. Havert does for people is irreplaceable. And, in our society, we need something to intervene, stomp symptoms, stop pain, stop suffering, but then we also need something that helps give the body that little bit of boost to heal.” Dr. Parker discusses how the work she does and the work primary care providers perform complement each other. She then shares more information about the Virginia University of Integrative Medicine.
  • 15:50 – 22:17 – Dr. Parker provides background on acupuncture and oriental medicine, stating that this medicine is becoming more mainstream due to the recognition in our medical system that there are still some holes where modern technology cannot quite isolate every healing ability. “How can we bring your body back into more of a naturally therapeutic window to where your symptoms are manageable and they’re not creating havoc on the other areas of your life?”
  • 22:40 – 28:15 – “There are really no side effects except the ones you want – you get better, and your body stops screaming at you. And, ultimately, it helps Dr. Havert’s treatment plans start to work more efficiently.”
  • 28:31 – 37:17 – One of the many benefits of acupuncture is that not only can it help you lean off medications, but it can give you an alternative to medications. “Because of the circulatory system, we talk about blood as life. And the circulatory system is really that pathway or that transportation system of where we bring the good stuff to the area that needs it.”
  • 38:22 – 1:02:35 – Dr. Havert ends the session by thanking Dr. Parker for her time and the information. Dr. Parker then spends the final time remaining answering questions from participants.
